Saving Charles

Mrs Whatsit explained to father and Calvin, that I should be the one to go back and save Charles from the cutches of IT. There was a lot of controversy, and once again, my Father objected me. In fact, I agreed on this task, after all, I am Charles' sister, and I ought to take good care of him.

After a short discussion about things, Mrs Whatsit decided it was time to go back. She tessered me back to Camazotz. I walked until I was in the dome and Charles looked at me. I still did not understand what I have at that moment that IT did not have, which Mrs Whatsit said I had. For a moment, I thought it was anger, hatred,etc. But hatred brought me closer to the clutches of IT. Suddenly, I knew that IT made a mistake. I figured that by constantly loving him, he could eventually, and inevitably, be free from IT. At one time, I focused my attack on IT, but I remembered that if I destroyed IT, billions of other people will be destroyed. So I tried to give love to Charles.Finally, he was freed, and soon, Mrs Whatsit brought us back to Earth. My house, my home, my comfort.

We all waved goodbye to the 3 Mrs Ws, but they did not wave us back, they had to leave Earth for something else. I wonder what is she doing now? Is she still battling the Dark Thing and Evil?

The three things.

As I regained consciousness, I tried to tell my father, who was beside me, that I was alive, but I was so weak I could not speak. Then, I heard father explaining to Calvin how he got here, on Camazotz.He said he was on a mission to try to tesser to Mars, but instead went to Camazotz. As we had a small discussion mostly regrading the things that happened before, three dark objects or creatures, came and try to take me away. Clearly my father didn't want that to happen. But the three things said that that taking me away was vital for my survival, and he agreed. The things carried me away and I was kind of "asleep" again. I guess they were trying to help me stay alive. Maybe they were being sympathetic towards us.

When I woke up, I was perfectly restored to normal, though I was still quite weak, but the pain that had overwhelmed me so much had all but vanished. I spoke a few things about Earth to one of the things, and it said that life on Earth is quite complicated.Then, the things gave me something to eat. One of them gave itself a name for me to call: Aunt Beast. It was quite funny, so I laughed for a short moment. Aunt Beast explained to me that his planet, Ixchel, shares the same sun as Camazotz.
After that, he took me to meet some other beasts and Calvin and father. I tried to beg for father to try to communicate with Mrs Whatsit, but he said he can't. I was on the verge of scolding him when Aunt Beast stopped me. How could a Father do that to me? Then, all I knew was that the three Mrs Ws were back.

IT's power

No matter how hard I tried, I could not communicate with my father. Charles Wallace does not want to let father out, even though I requested for him to do that several times. Calvin and I could not figure out how to get my father out of that transparent column, until we decided to use Mrs Who's spectacles, because we thought that was the moment Mrs Who had been talking about. She said it was used as a last resort. Charles Wallace kept trying to snatch away the spectacles as I took them out and used it, but I kicked Charles away. Soon I was in the column, but after I while, I was out of the column again. I gave father the glasses, and soon, he could pass through the column too.

My father's attempts to pull him out of IT's grasp was in vain. I tried to ask Calvin to tell my father what happen before. Charles decided to lead us to IT, I tried to resist the temptation, but Calvin insisted on following Charles. When we near a dome that IT was in, IT started to grip onto me.

I forced myself to resist the rhythm that IT was using against me, by reciting a poem and the Gettysburg address like Calvin did before. My father commanded me to say out the periodic table of elements, but he said it was too rhythmical. Then he asked me to say out the square root of 5. "2.236" I spoke. Calvin then asked father to tesser. It was extremely painful, unlike tessering with the 3 Mrs Ws. I wonder why it was like that. Maybe the amount of pain you feel depends on the person you are tessering with. Then, I probably lost consciousness. I couldn't remember anything. The experience had overwhelmed me as if I had purposely slammed into a solid wall.

Charles in hypnosis

Charles started walking towards the man in red eyes on the chair. The man warned me to cooperate with me, or else I won't see my father again. I reacted to him like how I did to Mr Jenkins.

The man explained that he chose to hypnotise Charles Wallace as his brain is complex enough for the him to control it, and our brains would explode if he tried to conduct it on me or Calvin. Then, he commanded four men in dark smocks to give us something to eat. We were a little apprehensive to eat that stuff, as it might be poisoned. All of us, including Charles Wallace, ate it.

The man with red eyes tried to presuade Charles to go with him to somewhere else. At first, he disagreed like the two of us, but he eventually agreed, as joining hin means that we can all find my father. I tried to stop him by saying that Mrs Whatsit warned us about not being arrogant.
But my efforts were clearly in vain.

Suddenly, his smile was not the same as he had before, and he spoke differently. It was then I realised that Charles Wallace had really been hypnotised by the man with red eyes. Even though Calvin and I tried to tackle and stop him, the men and IT had won. Calvin asked the man in red eyes to release him and me. He agreed. He said that Charles would lead us to meet father. It seemed he was using my little brother to help us. Despite my hesitations, I agreed to follow him.

Although Calvin tried to communicate with Charles Wallace again, he was still being hypnotised, and he even said the word IT again. Charles explained while walking, that IT kills all people who defy the rhythmic order of Camazotz. Then, Charles used the fact that atoms are mostly empty space, to open up a wall. The three of us walked through it, and the wall closed until it looked the same as it did before.

Then, he started to say some weird things. He first said that on Camazotz, everything is alike and there are no problems on Camazotz. Second, he even said that the 3 Mrs Ws were confusing us and harming us. Charles said that IT was the boss of that planet, and is ITself the happiest sadist. I wasn't probably so good in English, so I pronounced sadist wrongly.

After that, he showed us the same boy that dropped the ball in the town. He said that IT will take care of anything that does not cooperate with him. In the case of the boy, it punished him and made him experience pain.

Suddenly, a round transparent column showed up, and inside was father. I screamed as loud as I can, "Father!"

CENTRAL Central Intelligence

We were a bit anxious about the "papers" that the mother at the house mention, but we thought that Mrs Whatsit would have given them to us if we need them. We probably didn't need them at that moment. So far so good.

We were at the CENTRAL Central Intelligence Centre, and then six doors swung open. People were moving in and out, and those that could not catch up with the group were walking faster. We went in the building.

Of course, Charles and I knew the dangers of going there, but of course I wanted to save Father. Inside, we saw a man wearing a nondescript business suit, and Charles asked him, "What is the procedure around here?" The man told us all the nonsense, until he said something about IT again. Then, Charles said he felt something grabbing him. We held on to him tightly. Calvin wanted to go back, but Charles insisted not to. As we walked, we saw a platform. On the platform was a chair, which on it was man. Charles warned both of us to close our eyes. Charles even suggested violence. The man tried to hypnotise us using a multiplication table. Charles recited the "Mary had a little lamb" song. I became a little bored about this. Calvin then recited the Gettysburg Address by President Abraham Lincoln.

Charles eventually tried to hit him, but the men in dark smocks appeared and moved swiftly to Charles. We stopped him in time. But I was worried Charles Wallace would eventually be hypnotised by the man with red eyes. In fact, Charles was hypnotised for a brief moment, until I inadvertly interfered with the man with red eyes by tackling Charles, making him lose consciousness. Evil was starting to beat the innocent.

Camazotz

All of us watched the Dark Thing slowly disappear, and the Medium claimed that it can be overcome. Mrs Whatsit told us she was once a star, who gave up her life by going nova. Mrs Whatsit told us that we are going to Camazotz, and I somehow did not like the sound of that name. It just sounded weird and to me, it symbolised something evil.

When we were whisked to Camazotz, Mrs Whatsit told us that my father was there but she herself could not stay with us. She said she was afraid, and gave the best wishes to the three of us, and they ordered us to go into the town and stay in a group. Charles was reminded not to be proud and arrogant. Then, we set off for the town.

In the town,Charles and I realised that the children in the town are all skipping and bouncing balls at the same time. Everything there was rhythmic. I couldn't understand how they could do it. Calvin did not like the situation very much (he could have already felt the evilness) and eagerly wanted to go back. But we spotted a boy who produced no particular rhythm in bouncing balls, and the ball suddenly dropped. Charles picked it up and tried to give it to the mother of the boy. The mother claimed that children in the town never drop balls.(Huh?) The boy grabbed the ball and went back into the house. Then, the strange thing is that when the door closed, so did the doors of other houses. I was utterly confused. What was going on around here? What are they afraid of? Confused, we entered the city.

We met a boy on the way, who told us that the city is the most oriented one on the planet, no trouble for centuries and the capital city of Camazotz. But he said something about a building called CENTRAL Central Intelligence Centre a being called IT. The way he said IT made me a little afraid about the city. Maybe he was evil too, like IT was at that time. As we went deeper into the city, we saw a skyscraper, taller than all the other buildings there. It was the CENTRAL Central Intelligence Centre the boy was talking about.

The mysterious tesseract.

Mrs Which then replied to me, "Yes, he is behind that Thing, so that we can't see him." Upon hearing that, I burst into tears as it reminded me of all the sadness since my father disappeared. Mrs Whatsit told me there was hope that father would come back. I hope he will eventually. Before we tessered again, I said that I did not understand the word tesser.

Though Mrs Whatsit tried to explain to me, I was confused. Maybe I am a moron, like what Mr Jenkins suggested. Charles then tried to explain to me about a tesseract. First, he said that the first dimension is a line and to get the second dimension (a square), you have to square the line. To produce a cube (three dimensional), you have to square the square. And so on...

Charles also mentioned the fact that the fifth dimension is a tesseract, and also that a straight line is not the shortest distance between two points in a tesseract.

For a brief moment, I got it finally. I guessed explanations between siblings are better than explanations between strangers, though I was unsure if Calvin understood it better than me.

We were ready to go then. There was a gust of wind and I saw Mrs Who's face disappear first, then her glasses. It reminded me of the Cheshire Cat, but it did not look like Mrs Who in any way. All of a sudden, I felt the same feeling that I did when we tessered on Earth. We were actually transfered into a two dimensional world, and I did not like it very much. Then we were tessered again, this time into another three dimensional place. Mrs Whatsit siad that it was just a mistake to tesser us into a two - dimensional world. She led us to see the Happy Medium. She also told us that she was 2379152497 years, 8 months, and 3days, according to our calendar.

The Happy Medium showed us a ball, which contained a picture of the Earth, but covered by the Thing I saw on Uriel. Because of this, Mrs Whatsit explained, Earth is a very troubled planet. I learnt that the Earth's once great scientists, were all fighting it. Even the Happy Medium hates it so much that tears streaked down her cheeks, and she ordered us to watch a great ball.

Uriel

Today, I witnessed something extraordinary. Because for a moment in time, I was completely lost in the darkness. It was worse than losing all your senses. Time seemed to have no meaning in it, so much so, that I couldn't even touch Calvin and my brother. Finally, I was thrust foward violently, and then I saw Charles and Calvin. Charles seemed quite nervous and was glad we were together. Surprisingly, after this awkward journey, there was still the beauty of everything.

Mrs Who said, "When shall we three meet again, In thunder, lightning, or in rain?" Charles "scolded" the three Mrs Ws for not telling me that we were going to experience that. Once again, Mrs Who quoted "To action little, less to words inclined." Charles got very irritated by this and wished she stop quoting. Mrs Whatsit explained to us that this is because Mrs Who finds it hard to say things in her own words, so she had to quote. This is what I thought would happen if somebody didn't know English at all. Then, they revealed I was on the planet Uriel, the third planet of the star Malak in the spiral nebula Messier 101. This was the first time I have ever been to another planet, and the feeling was just spectacular.

Calvin grew frustrated, so he demanded an explanation of how we all got to Uriel. Mrs Whatsit said that they actually tesser (or wrinkle) instead of travelling at a speed.I thought of my mother's tesseract when I heard what Mrs Whatsit said. Then, I forgot all about the tesseract, and immediately asked Mrs Which, "Is my father on Uriel?" She said he was not there, but I kept demanding for an answer that would satisfy me. Then, Mrs Whatsit transformed into something like a Greek centaur. She looked quite similar to one indeed. She told us to get onto her back. Suddenly, Mrs Whatsit began to rise up a mountain that Charles noticed appears to reach to infinity. We heard some music from the creatures of Uriel. Mrs Whatsit translated it. She then picked three flowers and gave one to each of us. She told us to breathe at the flower occcasionally so that it will give us enough oxygen.

When we reached the top, Mrs Whatsit told us to face towards the dark, and soon I saw something that looked like a shadow. Calvin said it was evil, and he wanted Mrs Whatsit to make it go away. Mrs Whatsit took us down the mountain, and we could breathe without the flowers again. I said, "That dark Thing I saw, is that what my father is fighting?"

Mrs Whatsit's house

That day, Calvin joined Charles and I to meet Mrs Whatsit. When I reached the house, I didn't stop by and think whether MrsWhatsit's house was really haunted, or not, even though it looked like and sounded like one. But I was partly afraid too, like many other children.

It appears the front door was locked, but Charles went to the back of the house, knocked the door there, and it opened. At that time, I let out a stifled shriek as I saw a large grey rat scuttled around the house. I guess that house was really haunted. No wonder why I was so frightened about this house.

As we entered the kitchen, I wondered why there was no smoke from the chimmey, although there was a huge with a big black pot full of something liquid. Then, we saw Mrs Who, and I remembered that she wearing a pair of enormous spectacles. Charles discussed with her for a brief period of time about Mrs Bumcombe's sheets. After that, Charles introduced me and Calvin to Mrs Who. She seemed glad to meet us. I guess witches aren't so bad after all.

As we exited the house, Charles wanted to go home quickly to eat dinner; Calvin accepted it, because he wanted to see my house.

When we all got back to the house, my mum was in the lab, and watching a substance(it had a pale, blue colour) as it moved from a beaker to a retort thorugh a tube. She expressed one of her concerns: she was afraid the Sandy and Dennys might some chemicals might get in the piece of stew, which was over a bunsen burner. She also explained to us that the family is only going to eat stew tonight.

Soon, we walked out of the lab and I led Calvin to the house. He asked an unusual question, "Do you know how lucky you are?"

I said, "Not most of the time."

Calvin explained that his mother was much uglier than my own mum, that's why he asked that question. But he said that he still loves his mother in anyway. Later, I showed him a picture of my father at Cape Canaveral. I joked a little about his hair to Calvin. Now I knew that I could possibly be those that were more privilged compared to others like Calvin.

Meeting Calvin

Somehow I still could not remember what Mrs Whatsit said in my dream. Tess...tesser......

I do not know if there is really such a thing, neither do I know how mother came to know about this. Maybe if Father hadn't disppeared, then maybe this could not have happened at that time.

Also, this morning, Miss Potter tried to ask me to name the imports and exports of Nicaragua. In fact, i could remember none of them. I don't understand why I needed to do that, let alone learn it. In a fury, I flounced out of the classroom, and as a result, I was called to Mr Jenkins(the school's principal) office yet again. He told me that I was inexcusably rude, but I think he was the one who has to be rude, because he kept dragging my parents into the picture, especially my Father, who has "disappeared" sometime ago.

That afternoon, when I got back from school, I ate my lunch, then Charles wanted to go to Mrs Whatsit's house - to ask her to return the sheets back to Mrs Bumcombe. Charles in fact, actually said that Mrs Whatsit was not alone in that house, so who were her friends? This was all very confusing to me.

On the way, I met a boy, who was wondering around the house. His name was Calvin O'Keefe. He was a couple of grades above me, about fourteen years old.

School today

It was an awful day at school today.

Already, I have been dropped to the lowest section of the grade, and now it seems to be getting worse and worse.

I met with one of my teachers, who wondered why I was "unintelligent", though mother and father were all scientists. During lunch, somebody tried to say that I act like a baby. Later, one of the boys in school think that Charles is a dumb baby brother, that hurt me so much that I fought with him and ended up that my eye had a big bruise underneath it and my blouse was torn. Serves me right.

That night, there were several hurricane warnings, and I had difficulty sleeping. Eventually I slept, but I dreamt that the tramp that had been stealing Mrs Bumcombe sheets came to my house, and her name was...Mrs Whatsit. But was it true? Maybe it was just another normal dream, so maybe I should forget about it.

Introducing myself

My name is Meg. I have a few siblings, one of whom is the young Charles Wallace. He appears to be a weird guy, and he seems to know what I'm doing, all the time. The Sandy and Dennys, my other siblings, wanted to protect me from awful comments from other people about me.

My parents were both scientists, but my father disappeared some time ago. How I wish I could see him again.
